Why Russia?

I wanted to give everyone an idea of the journey we are on and the steps we will be taking on it. The first question we receive often is, why Russia? Cheryl and I are both short term missionaries. Cheryl has traveled to Cuba and Brazil to share the good news of Jesus Christ with the people while I've traveled to Romania for the same reason. Each of us has come home with torn hearts for the children we met during the trips there, knowing that so many have so little while we have so much. Russia came to our mind because we wanted the children to assimilate into our family easier than from other cultures.

Just wondering... Why do you think that it might be easier to assimilate Russian children versus other cultures?

We really had two reasons for our decision to choose Russia over some other countries that offer adoption. First, an adoption is a major trauma for a child of any age but even more so for older children which includes toddlers and above. We felt lead to Russia to help them more quickly feel part of the family and not stand out as obviously to others. It is often a comment made by adoptees that they don't match other family members. Secondly, since we already have two boys, by birth, we wanted acceptance on both parts to be as easy as possible. We thought a child with an Eastern European culture fits those thoughts more than those of other cultures that we had at our agency. We know that these may not be significant for other families and we appreciate that but our first concern is what is best for our family, current and new. Thank you for your question and if there are any other questions regarding this feel free to e-mail us at 4adoptions@bellsouth.net.
Thanks.
